The main objectives of UNESCO-CWR is to build a wide knowledge-base through research studies and capacity building adopting integration between the different relevant specializations, making use of the available expertise in the local universities, research centers and governmental/private sectors under the complete coordination of UNESCO-CWR.

Specific objectives includes:

• Promote integrated research systems,
• Capacity building,
• Gathering the available expertise in the field of water resources and facilitate information transfer,
• Development and enhancement of scientific consultancy
• Awareness raising among the societies and decision makers
• Documentation and dissemination of research findings
• Creation of networks between water institutions to facilitate exchange of experience and     information nationally, regionally and internationally.
• Conduct and contribute to workshops and conferences of national, regional and international nature to push forward exchange of experience.
